When Worlds Collide

Well, i know i promised myself to write about Japan Trip last year, i haven't got the time to do it. Maybe i'll write it on the next post (i suppose). Sekarang gw lagi mau nulis tentang, well, masih ada hubungannya sama Jepang sih and food (of course). Have you ever imagined makan, makanan dari dua negara dalam satu sajian (am i saying that right?) i did imagine about it and yes i got the chance to taste a cuisine from both country on a same plate. I remembered, a few years ago, temen gw ngajakin ke salah satu restaurant di bilangan Pejaten, Jakarta Selatan. Sebuah restauran yang memadukan masakan tradisional Jawa dan masakan Yunani, it's called "Halo Niko", but i'm not going to write about it now. It's something else, something you've (probably) never heard before.

Last Sunday, i went to PIM 2 cuman buat jalan-jalan dan gw sempat berhenti sebentar di depan salah satu restoran di area restauran row. One restaurant that caught my eyes (lebay), mereka menyajikan hidangan masakan Jepang yang dikawinkan dengan masakan Padang, how cool is that, huh? Namanya SUNTIANG, dari namanya sih gw udah bisa nebak, merek ambil nama itu karena mereka mempersunting dua masakan sekaligus, Padang dan Jepang. I was excited, karena memang gw suka sama masakan Padang dan Jepang (terpisah) apalagi ini, disatuin. I got to try this!



Setelah gw masuk ke SUNTIANG gw melihat selayaknya restauran Jepang pada umumnya, ada conveyor belt, ada sushi bar plus the chef is there, menyajikan berbagai sajian sushi, makimono dll dan beberapa ornamen di dalam restauran SUNTIANG berbau Jepang. Namun ada satu yang membedakan SUNTIANG dan restoran Jepang lainnya, pertama masuk restoran ini gw disambut dengan lagu-lagu instrument khas Sumatera Barat, which is kind of cool, i guess :D



So i took a seat at the sofa bar (my fave place in every Japanese Restaurant) dimana lu bisa liat makanan apa yang lewat di conveyor belt and just take it :D. Gw liat beberapa menu, i was really curious and wanted to try them all :P tapi akhirnya pilihan gw jatuh kepada Gulai Ramen, katanya sih Ramen ini memang recommended dan salah satu andalan mereka. 


Well, they were right, this is the most delicious Ramen i've ever tasted. Most Ramen (yang halal) hanya mengandalkan pedasnya saja, Gulai Ramen ini kaya akan rasa dan rempah. Satu porsi Ramen mereka bandrol dengan harga IDR 58.000, for me it's reasonable price since you can eat this Ramen beramai-ramai, karena porsinya yg GEDE banget. 

I'm getting curious rasa dari makanan lainnya, ada Rendang Roll, Ayam Pop Roll, Lidah Sapi ala Suntiang, Nasi Goreng Rendang (this one is 'da bomb), Edamame Balado dan Otak Tempura Saos Balado. I decided to ordered them all, i got to try every meal there, you got to understand :D and oh i forget to mention the Green Suntiang Drink.


Masing-masing hidangan mempunyai rasa yg unik, Start from the Appetizer the famous Edamame with Sambal Balado. Gw sih pertama agak ragu juga sama rasanya, apa jadinya edamame pake sambel, this guys here must be out of their mind, but i was wrong and the Edamame taste real good with Sambal Balado. I don't really like spicy food but this Sambal Balado isn't that spicy and it's just felt so right! Satu porsi Edamame ini harganya IDR 21.000.


Saya beralih ke makanan kedua (ketiga, actually) yaitu Rendang Roll dan Ayam Pop Roll, just like any other Rolls out there, tapi yang bikin Rolls ini spesial adalah pemakaian Rendang, it's a great Combination. Rendang Roll disajikan dengan Rendang diatasnya dan ditaburi saos rendang dan tepung roti while Ayam Pop Roll Disajikan dengan saos balado dan ditaburi black sesame, yum!. Satu porsi Rendang Roll dan Ayam Pop Roll dibandrol dengan harga each IDR 33.000



Ok this one is, probably you've tried this before because i tried this myself, a long time ago, maybe 6 to 10 years ago. Kalau disini sih nasi goreng rendang agak susah ya, kebanyakan abang-abang yang jual nasi goreng hanya jual nasi goreng aja, sebagian sih hanya nasi yang di goreng, nasi yang di goreng, nasi + goreng, that's it, and it's awfully tasteless. Anyway, this is Nasi Goreng Rendang ala SUNTIANG yang dibalut dengan telur dadar dan diberi rendang telur diatasnya, perfect! Karena porsinya yg besar, gw saranin untuk makan ini barengan sama temen-temen. Satu Porsi Nasi Goreng Rendang dihargai IDR 47.000


Last but not least is this Otak Tempura Saus Balado (i don't eat this, never been a fan of Otak, but my friend did eat this, and he liked it) Lidah Sapi ala SUNTIANG, Green SUNTIANG and the dessert, Ketan Kelapa (i actually forget the name of this food).






Setelah puas mencoba semua (well, not all, but at least their best food) gw menyimpulkan this will be my favourite restaurant, why not, two of my fave cuisines dijadiin satu, that's hell of an idea! Sometimes, menggabungkan dua hal yang bahkan menurut kita impossible, can be a good thing :)
